Receiving a massage in the Queen City just became a bit more convenient. Zeel, an in-home, on-demand massage company, announced on Monday that it had launched service in both the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham markets as part of a Southeastern expansion. Massages can be booked by smartphone app or online at Zeel's website, with customers able to select the preferred gender of the licensed massage therapist as well as the time and location. Therapists — who are "licensed," "experienced" and "vetted in person," according to Zeel — will bring a massage table and music to clients at their home, hotel, workplace or event as soon as an hour after booking. Zeel therapists provide several techniques, including Swedish, deep tissue, prenatal, sports, couples and sleep massages in 60-, 75- and 90-minute increments. The service is offered from 8 a.m. until 10:30 p.m., every day day of the year. Massages can also be booked as far as 30 days in advance. The cost of a 60-minute massage in the Tar Heel State is $105, including an 18% added tip. A membership package is also available. " Charlotte and Raleigh are powerhouses of the Southeast – each an inspiring economic success story," said company founder and CEO Samer Hamadeh in a news release."We're looking forward to further enhancing the already great quality of life in Charlotte and Raleigh with in home, on-demand massages from Zeel." After selecting the massage I wanted and providing a window of preferred times, I received a confirmation in less than 15 minutes with a photo of my therapist, a bio, N.C. and S.C. massage license numbers, and board certification listings. Prep information was also included (provide your own sheets etc.) and a reference to the cancellation policy. My therapist arrived a few minutes early, was polite and professional. She brought her own massage table, set up quickly and within 10 minutes I was enjoying a deep-tissue massage as good as I’ve had anywhere. She asked about the level of pressure, played some cool, new-agey music and – boom – an hour gone in a bliss-induced flash. The comparisons to Uber are tough to ignore. When I was first introduced to the concept of getting into a stranger’s car and being whisked to my destination through the magic of my smart-phone app, it seemed unsettling. Now it’s routine. I was much less apprehensive about Zeel. I liked the fact I was in my own home and never felt the least bit ill-at-ease. The added benefit of being blissed-out next to my own easy chair and current library book made it all the better.
